This
work shows the influence that the Pre-Raphaelite
world would have on Vedder after his trip
to London in 1870. Narcissus was more than
likely done upon the artist's return to Rome
in the same year. Little is known of it's
prior history as to exhibitions or ownership
. At the time of it's execution Vedder was
deeply immersed in depicting most of the prominent
figures in Greek Mythology.
