About the Painting:
Elaine de Kooning’s mastery of the genre of portraiture is exemplified in her ability to effectively convey a feeling, a gesture, a sense of likeness about the person and not simply their physicality. The character of Elaine’s subjects was always alive with the personality unique to themselves and this is most evident in her hauntingly direct portraits.
